We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Infrastructure Architect to lead the design and architecture of our essential IT infrastructure for Telesat Lightspeed. This critical role encompasses both on-premise data centers and robust Cloud environments. You will be responsible for defining our infrastructure strategy, managing deliverables, creating comprehensive documentation, and finalizing designs in close collaboration with our existing team, including Network and Cloud Architects. The successful candidate will own the overall IT infrastructure design, ensuring a highly available, secure, and scalable foundation for our innovative satellite network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and establish hardware standards, preferred vendors, and comprehensive hardware support models across all Telesat data centers.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to accurately assess current resource requirements, forecast incremental growth, and develop detailed cost estimates for infrastructure needs.
- Provide expert guidance and support to the data center engineering team on critical physical aspects, including rack layouts, cooling, and power models.
- Partner with Network and Cloud Architects to develop cohesive and comprehensive infrastructure designs based on established requirements for Lightspeed, prioritizing both high availability and stringent security.
- Document detailed designs for all hardware components and related Basic Infrastructure Services (BIS) essential for operational excellence, including automation strategies for infrastructure management using Terraform.
- Contribute to the development of robust build books for IT Infrastructure deployments.
- Maintain regular engagement with stakeholders, effectively presenting and defending design decisions at both technical and financial levels.
Mandatory Skills & Experience:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in the installation, configuration, and operation of data center environments, including servers, storage, and networking.
- 5+ years of proven experience in building out secure, on-premise data center hardware clusters (network, servers, and storage).
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in designing, building, and managing enterprise networks, including network switches, firewalls, and associated monitoring solutions.
- Proven expertise in the deployment and operation of Cloud Infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
- Proven experience in the deployment and operation of KVM Hypervisor.
- Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix Shell Scripting.
- Strong knowledge of Access Management tools such as AWS IAM, Azure Active Directory, or similar.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with building and operating large-scale, high-availability, and fault-tolerant network infrastructure.
- Familiarity with various Linux distributions, including RedHat and Ubuntu.
- Experience with storage technologies and platforms (e.g., iSCSI, NFS).
- In-depth knowledge of various Cloud Infrastructure services and technologies.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes.
- Experience in the design of data center management platforms, including DCIM and various Telalert systems.
Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
- Ability to travel occasionally between 3 sites in the Ottawa/Gatineau area (<10%) and to an alternate data center (<5%).
- Must reside in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate, with a commitment to being on-site in the office at least 4-5 days per week.
