Job Description

  • Role Summary: The Junior Network Engineer will be a key contributor to defending the network infrastructure from cyberattacks. This role involves assisting with policy creation, ensuring firewall rule reviews, analyzing network traffic logs, and tracking security incidents. The ideal candidate will also focus on maintaining network health, researching emerging threats, and providing strong communication and support across teams.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist in creating and reviewing policies on network tools and technologies to defend against cyberattacks.
    • Ensure rigorous review of firewall rules to prevent inbound malicious threats.
    • Analyze network traffic logs during security investigations to identify anomalies.
    • Track, record, and monitor all security issues from initiation to completion, prioritizing incident management.
    • Conduct regular health checks and periodic testing of network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
    • Stay informed on the latest cybersecurity threats and advise on policy creation for Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention Systems (NGIPS) devices.
    • Analyze security data, create comprehensive reports, and present findings to management teams.
    • Provide support for various ad-hoc projects related to network security.
    • Establish and manage strong relationships with internal business customers and external suppliers.
    • Assess, summarize, and escalate potential security breaches to leadership as needed.
    • Assist partners and staff with network security-related queries.
    • Contribute to the development of operational and project documentation.
    • Provide support to other teams within the broader Risk Management Group.
    • Research emerging threats to understand their impact on the client's security posture.

    Required Skills & Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience. Background in the insurance industry is an asset.
    • 3-5 years of experience specifically in Cybersecurity (network security), within at least 5+ years in an enterprise IT environment.
    • Holds an active cybersecurity certification (e.g., CISSP, OSCP).
    • Demonstrable expertise in network and cyber security, with hands-on experience in Proxy, Firewalls, Wireshark, CDN technology, SIEM, and NGIPS.
    • Practical knowledge of web proxy security policy administration, management, and design; experience with WSS or ProxySG is a significant advantage.
    • Strong knowledge of gateway security threats and preventative technologies/controls.
    • Awareness and practical use of security and privacy concepts (international standards, legal/regulatory constraints).
    • Good practical knowledge of general information technology, including operating systems (Windows, UNIX) and networking technologies (IP addressing, OSI layers, routers, switches).
    • Experience with gateway security technologies and security/infrastructure operations.
    • Strong knowledge of DDOS attacks and remediation measures, networking fundamentals, network-related threats, attacks, and prevention protocols.
    • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with internal and external peers.
    • Outstanding communication (written, oral, presentation), analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
    • Deep technical skills, knowledge of network protocols, network communication principles, vulnerabilities, and remediation techniques.
    • Experience with crafting incident response plans and playbooks.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a balanced and controlled manner.

    Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

    Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year

    Schedule:

    • 8 hour shift
    • Monday to Friday
    • Weekends as needed
